Every morning look inside and get rid of all greed, hate and stupidity. Clean your heart just as you shower and clean your body and your hair. Clearly distinguish what you need from what you don't need at all.
You do not need to be right, to recognize you, to approve all your actions, to share all your ideas. You don't need to polish the car or make it bigger and more powerful than your neighbor's: after all, you can only run at a hundred and twenty. You do not need to defend your team at all costs, it is just a game to spend the dead time. You do not need to idolize athletes, actors or singers as if they were heroes: they are not; they are neither more nor less than you, they just do their job, just like you. Nor do you need to have a ten body sculpted agonically in the gym; just some regular exercise at home to keep you healthy and functional. You don't need your life to resemble the glittering TV commercials.
You do not need to arrive first, trying at all costs not to slip on the highway. You don't need a leader or laugh thanks. You don't need to speak ill of anyone, nor gossip, nor spread rumors. You do not need to be thanked immediately for everything you do for others. You don't need things to go absolutely perfect. You do not need to be the center of attention, or always carry the singing voice, or be in all meetings or conversations. You do not need to find out everything or comment on everything, or understand everything. You also don't need to save the world.
You do not need to impose your ideas. You do not need to justify yourself or ask for forgiveness more than once, or repeat your arguments until convincing. You don't need to agree with everyone and everything, always, nor do you need to like what you have to do in your work: you just do it. You don't need to worry about those issues that are beyond your control. You don't need to be happy at all times, in every situation. You don't need to be doing something productive all the time to avoid feeling bad and thinking you're wasting your time. You do not need to take care of solving the problems of everyone around you. You don't need everything to go well, that everything works in all areas of your life. You don't need to understand your mother. You don't need your friends to be legal people, one hundred percent legit. You don't need anyone to travel, to go to the movies, to enjoy a landscape or a dinner or a swim in the sea under the full moon.
You don't need to have the TV constantly on. You do not need to eat two dishes or a liter of milk a day or food supplements: you will not climb Everest. You don't need new clothes every season. You don't need to tell everything you do to everyone. You don't need a hundred and fifty friends. You don't need to be perfect, or be up to date, or be a reference in anything. You don't need a picture with a famous person, or an autograph, or a brand cap. You don't need to know how to dance the summer song, you don't need to have dinner on the trendy terrace. You do not need a unique and original tattoo that defines how you are. You don't need to prove anything, because what you are you already are and you already know that you are.
You don't need to do what others do: watch the same movies, read the same books, hear the same music. You also don't need to be different or break any mold. You do not need to follow all the rules, written and unwritten, at all times. You do not need to give advice when someone confesses a problem or concern. You do not need to win on each occasion or be above anyone or say the last word. You do not need to feel indispensable or unique. You do not need to know everything. You don't need to like everyone who knows you. You do not need to be eternally young or be a happy person, self-realized and enlightened by the holy spirit. You don't need to have the best family in the world. You don't need to be funny or always be in a good mood. You don't need to hide your flaws, or fake your feelings, or always tell the truth. You don't need to feel good all the time or have things clear. You don't need unchangingly solid principles. You don't need your god to be the only true god.
Do not worry about idiocy. Do not waste your resources on babysitters. Do not fight but for food or for freedom or for high causes that are really worthwhile. Look at yourself from outside. Clean your heart every morning. Respect yourself. just relax. Nothing happens.
